Applicability of Radioguided Occult Lesion Localization in Non-Palpable Benign Breast Lesions

چکیده
Mammography screening programs are frequently used for the detection of non-palpable clinically occult breast lesions and the widespread use of high-resolution ultrasound has increased the number of detected masses. Although most of the detected masses are benign and do not require surgery, sometimes surgery is needed because of discordance between results of pathologic and radiologic examinations, patient anxiety, positive family history, and patient desire despite benign pathology results. Successful management of these non-palpable non-malignant lesions requires complete surgical excision with optimal cosmetic outcome and minimal morbidity, for which accurate localization of the lesion is essential. Ultrasound is the most commonly used imaging modality for localization, provided the lesions are visible on ultrasound examination. Mammography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are other methods of

Results of the radioguided surgeries among the patients with pathological nipple discharge
Introduction: Nipple discharge is the third most common complaint of the breast diseases following the breast mass and the breast pain. The majority of the lesions causing pathological nipple discharge (PND) consist of non-palpable breast lesions (NPBLs). When non-operative diagnostic tools are inadequate to distinguish the diagnosis, the pathological duct should be removed to ...
متن کاملAssessment of Ultrasound / Radio-guided Occult Lesion Localization in Non-palpable Breast Lesions
Objective(s): Controversy exists about the localization of non-palpable breast lesions. In many countries, the gold standard for the diagnosis of these lesions is needle localization due to its accuracy. This study sought to compare the ultrasoundand radio-guided occult lesion localization (ROLL) as a simple method with the conventional procedures in terms of their diagnostic power. Methods: Th...
متن کاملRadioguided occult lesion localization versus wire-guided localization for non-palpable breast lesions: randomized controlled trial
AIM This prospective randomized clinical study was conducted to compare radioguided occult lesion localization (ROLL) with wire-guided localization to evaluate optimum localization techniques for non-palpable breast lesions. METHODS A total of 108 patients who were undergoing an excisional biopsy for non-palpable breast lesions requiring pathologic diagnosis were randomly assigned to the ROLL...
متن کاملRadioguided breast surgery for occult lesion localization – correlation between two methods
BACKGROUND The detection of sub-clinical breast lesions has increased with screening mammography. Biopsy techniques can offer precision and agility in its execution, as well as patient comfort. This trial compares radioguided occult lesion localization (ROLL) and wire-guided localization (WL) of breast lesions. We investigate if a procedure at the ambulatorial level (ROLL) could lead to a bette...
متن کاملMagnetic resonance imaging-radioguided occult lesion localization (ROLL) in breast cancer using Tc-99m macro-aggregated albumin and distilled water control
BACKGROUND Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided wire localization presents several challenges apart from the technical difficulties. An alternative to this conventional localization method using a wire is the radio-guided occult lesion localization (ROLL), more related to safe surgical margins and reductions in excision volume. The purpose of this study was to establish a safe and reliable m...
